There is Family Day in Canada on the third Monday of February. And it is a provincial holiday!! One of my coworkers had a plan to go ice fishing at Lake Simcoe so my husband and I went along with them. Those who reside in Toronto may have heard of this place or have visit it already!
My coworkers began ice fishing from 11am before our arrival. He sent me a photo of his tents and told me to come to the middle of the lake. The weather was quite warm so ice near the entrance of the lake melted. He told me usually people park on the ice when the ice is thick enough!
We did fising inside the tent and the coworker brought a heater, so it wasn't too cold. However, we were on the ice for a while, our feet were frozen. I will definately wear thick socks and winter boots next time. And most importantly !! I will bring portable stove and cup noodle.
For you reference, you need a license to go ice-fishing in Canada. But during the Family Day weekend, people are allowed to fish without license, so we decided to go as well. Different provinces may have different policies but you can visit linkdown below for your information.
